This weeks featured artist is excellent. We love her style, all her drawings and animations are fantastic. She makes amazing anime and manga art here on DoInk! She is a great community member, very active and supportive of everyone on this website. We love having her and all of her talent here. This weeks featured artist is YearOfTheCatFan.
Tell us about yourself, what is a typical day like?
I start my day by waking up around 7 am. I then take a shower, get dressed and go down stairs to get my breakfast, a bowl of cereal with a tall glass of V8 fusion, strawberry and banana flavored. Yummy! Then I will get on DoInk for hours and hours :D! Then I’ll take a break for lunch, usually a sandwich or ramen. Delicious! I try to change things up after lunch but I usually just get back on the computer. After my eyes have melted from being on the computer so long, I will go upstairs and study Japanese! I already know all of the Hiragana! Then I will go get some dinner and go to bed. Then do the same thing all over again the next day.
How old were you when you started drawing? Ever animated anything before?
I have been drawing ever since I picked up my first crayon. I would draw so much that when I ran out of paper, I would draw on the walls. XD Mom was never happy about that. Hahaha! I had never animated anything before DoInk. I never had access to anything that would let me animate.
Do you have a favorite artist or animator?
I like Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto. I think that it is so wonderful that he has made so many books and every one of them is great! Even the shows are great, too!
What inspires you?
Hmm, I guess all the different animes and mangas I watch and read. I strive to be as good an artist as those who draw the books. I also think that the people of DoInk inspire me. Everyone here is so nice and gives such wonderful feedback. Even the negative criticism is said in a way to make you feel like your work isn’t bad but only needs improvement.
Do you have a favorite cartoon and/or anime character?
Oh gosh, there are so many. I have a favorite from each series I watch. If I had to choose I guess my favorite would be … Kyo Sohma from Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya.
What is your favorite musician or band, what are you listening to?
Dang, another hard question! I can’t choose just one so I will tell you two. They are both Japanese and the first one is called Nightmare. I love most of their songs but my favorite one is Can You Do It…? Sakito is the best guitarist I have ever seen!!! The second one is a one man band, Joe Inoue. Yes, I know, two very different styles of music but I try to vary my music so that I don’t limit myself to just one genre. My favorite song by Joe is Nowhere. Nowhere is also a big inspiration for me. Warning: the sh cuss word is used once in this song just in case you decided to youtube it. I am listening to Hummingbird by Joe Inoue right now!
What are your Favorite websites, outside of DoInk?
Haha, well DoInk is my favorite website. Hulu and youtube come next I guess. They are the ones I go to most besides DoInk. Hulu because I can watch a lot of manga in the original Japanese with the subs, of course. And youtube because I can listen to my favorite music.
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies consist of drawing, listening to music, studying Japanese, and hanging with friends. I also like to skateboard but I haven’t skateboarded in months.
What are your favorite Computer Game?
I like the Sims games. Although, I’m sticking with Sims 2. I don’t really like Sims 3. I think they made too many changes all at once.
How did you find DoInk and what is your experience so far?
I was on facebook and I saw the ad on the side of the screen. I usually don’t pay attention to the ads but I happened to glance over that one time and there it was, DoInk! I love this website so much. I think that everyone who is even remotely interested in art should join. All of my experiences with DoInk so far have all been positive.
If you could add any features to DoInk, what would they be?
I would add so much! I mean everything needs tremendous work done on it! … NOT! If I meant that, I would be the most hated girl on DoInk. Hahaha! Everything is perfect here and I wouldn’t change a single thing!
