The Featured Artist of the Week-demonic_ferret
This weeks featured artist has a really cool style. I love his characters, lots of them have big noses and that just amuses me. His Kairi and baby bunny were just amazing clips too. He is so talented, he even makes motivational and not so motivational clips. All of them are excellent. He is a great community member and we are always inspired by his talent. Lastly, I just loved his advice for DoInk users, in his interview especially the last line. What a great comment and sentiment. This weeks featured artist is demonic_ferret.
Tell us about yourself, what is a typical day like?
I’m still in school, so on a typical day I get up at about 6:30, and leave for school about 7:15. I go to a boces Graphic visual arts and multimedia class in the morning, and lately we’ve been doing animations on Adobe Flash cs4. My school gets out at about 2:12, but I stay after for a club I’m in called the FCCLA a few days out of each week. Then I come back home, and go online to DoInk, MLIA, and facebook. Every few days I go to a neighbors house, for at least an hour at a time when I do, and we play wii. I usually end up going to sleep between 12:00 and 1:00.
How old were you when you started drawing? Ever animated anything before?
I’ve been drawing as long as I can remember, though I have a rather bad memory so that’s not incredibly far back. I know I’ve always liked drawing though. And yes, I have animated before. My first time animating was with 3Ds max, which was a very complicated system. I was taking it in a class in school, and the first year I did it I was in the top of my class. Unfortuanately, when I had to transfer schools partway through the second year my new school had no such elective.
Do you have a favorite artist or animator?
No, actually I don’t even know the names of very many artists, and I can’t think of any animators I know… xD
What inspires you?
I am still looking for my inspiration…
Do you have a favorite cartoon and/or anime character?
Not really, I like character concepts more than the characters themselves in shows. If I had to choose it would most likely be either Light or L(from death note).
What is your favorite musician or band, what are you listening to?
I don’t really have a favorite musician or band, what I listen to just depends on how I feel that day. Though lately, I’ve been listening to “Eleanor Rigby” by The Beatles. xD I also like to listen music from several of the video games I’ve played, such as Kingdom Hearts, and Fallout 3.
What are your Favorite websites, outside of DoInk?
Mylifeisaverage, Facebook, Onemanga, and Zomganime. And Yahoo I guess, but I’m not sure that really counts…
What are your hobbies?
Other than drawing and animating I don’t really do much. I like to write a lil’, though recently I haven’t even opened a word document other than an essay I had to do for school.
What are your favorite Computer Game(s)?
I used to play computer games alot, so this one’s easy… xD I really liked fallout 3, neverwinter night diamond edition, Black and white 2, and everquest 2. I’ve played others, but those are the first to come to mind.
How did you find DoInk and what is your experience so far?
I completely forget. :l Huh, that’s weird. I think I was probably looking for an online animation site to replace the 3Ds max class that I had lost earlier. I also downloaded pivot animator before I found doink, but it wasn’t as nice…
My experience with DoInk has been excellent. It’s a simple and easy animation site, so I was for the most part able to figure things out on my own(though I was on for several months before I knew of the existance of layer or composition mode… xD). It’s a positive place where artists of all levels and styles are welcomed and appreciated.
Any advice for other DoInk users?
If you’re new READ THE TUTORIAL. I never did, but I’m guessing there’s some stuff I woulda learned ALOT quicker if I had. In fact, right now I’m thinking about going back and watching it to make sure I’m not missing something… Also, try not to stay up to 1:00 am drawing/animating on DoInk on a school/work night. I know it’s fun, but you need sleep.
Lastly, be happy. Try to make someone else happy too.
