This Weeks Featured Artist-Eklia

This weeks featured artist has an amazing style. I love her use of colors and shapes. She is so talented and does an amazing job with backgrounds, skies, fire. We just love seeing what she comes up with next. She is also from somewhere in Australia, which is so cool. We can hear all about what is going on in Australia when she write to all of us. She is a wonderful community member who is always helpful and encouraging to other DoInk community members. This weeks features artist is the very talented Eklia.

Tell us about yourself, what is a typical day like?

A typical day is pretty boring actually, I wake up around 6-6.30am (even on weekends) Then, if its a school day I get ready for school. I actually just finished my last day of actual school work for this year today (yay!). On Saturdays I go to art classes for 2 hours in the morning.

How old were you when you started drawing? Ever animated anything before?

I remember drawing pictures in kindergarten. Most of them were just stairs, which for me, were zig-zag lines across the page! I haven’t really animated anything before. A few weeks ago, I found a picture that I had drawn on paint when I was 7 or 8. It was 2 stick figures with pink and green hair at night time. One of the stick figures had a speech bubble that said “Our hair is glow in the dark” and the other one said “I no!” I think thats one of the first times I drew something using the computer.

Do you have a favorite artist or animator?

Nope. I like artwork from lots of different artists!

What inspires you?

Lots of stuff. Sometimes, I read something and it sounds interesting so I draw a picture that came into my head when I read it. Sometimes I take photos or see photos and try to draw them.

Do you have a favorite cartoon and/or anime character?

Uhh.. not really.

What is your favorite musician or band, what are you listening to?

Well, I like that music that is popular at the time. You know, the sorta music that is on the radio all the time and stuff like that. Right now I am listening to bullet proof by La Roux but I don’t like this song that much anymore.

What are your Favorite websites, outside of DoInk?

Facebook! MLIA! and umm… websites with fun games! :)

What are your hobbies?

I like drawing, climbing trees (especially cause its summer now!) I also like talking to people. I don’t know if thats a hobby, but I like talking to people about random stuff. I also like making patterns, in PE there were cones on the ground and I rearranged them so they were in rainbow order!

What are your favorite Computer Games?

I don’t play computer games much, the computer (which is actually a laptop) That I usually use is actually my sisters. I’m pretty sure she told me not to install anything on it. The other computer that I am allowed to use can’t run many good games. Its not a very good computer. Oh yeh, but when I do get to play computer games I like playing Portal and plants vs zombies. But I’ve finished all the levels so they aren’t as fun anymore.

How did you find DoInk and what is your experience so far?

My sister told me one day “Hey Emma! Go to this website, Doink.com. You might like it.” So I went to it and made an account, when I first drew something, I didn’t notice the thingy that makes the lines smooth. But then I made another picture, I think it was a sunset on a beach, and I was drawing the reflection on the water and it started looking amazingly smooth! I love the community at DoInk, and so do most users. I also love how when you make something small, then make it bigger, it doesn’t loose quality and go all blurry! (I know thats not an experience or whatever, but it was an awesome discovery!)

Any advice for other DoInk users?

Have fun when you draw. If you’re not having fun you’ll get bored of drawing. If you get bored with drawing you’ll stop making awesome art work! Also, no matter how horrible you THINK your art is, it could always be better, but it could also be heaps worse.

What is your favorite clip that you have done?
