The Featured Artist of the Week-Aperion
This weeks featured artist is the coolest. She has the greatest style and the most amazing animations. We love to see her drawings and compositions. She can make incredibly realistic people and then just cool creatures from her imagination. Even her sketch dumps are fantastic. She is an inspiration to everyone here in the DoInk community. This weeks featured artist is Aperion.
Tell us about yourself, what is a typical day like?
About myself then. Despite the fact that my Doink alias is Apeiron, I am not in fact an infinite principle of the universe. You can call me Jack. (I am also not a pumpkin).
In a typical day I get up early-ish, go to school, forget to pay attention, realize my notebook contains extensive doodles but no notes, come home, scarf down whatever my roommate has cooked up, head off to work, come home, and study. Some days I even get to sleep. Yes, my typical days are so horrendously typical that it pains me to even mention them. But you did ask.
How old were you when you started drawing? Ever animated anything before?
I’ve been drawing since I met my best friend, which is farther back than I can remember. I’ve never been particularly artistic in two dimensions though; I’m more of a clay person. Animation…yes, I have, if you include some experimenting with stop-motion. It’s worlds different than the Doink variety though.
Do you have a favorite artist or animator?
I don’t really; but I think my all-time favorite animated sequence is ‘the Wall.’ (Pink Floyd’s rock opera) Heh, incidentally I’m wearing the t-shirt.
What inspires you?
Life. Insects. Freaky dreams.
Do you have a favorite cartoon and/or anime character?
Geez I’m boring. Not one I would call my all-time favorite, no. What happens is I tend to watch something and fall a little bit in love with a character(s), but then the show ends or worse, continues on to the point of nausea. Even the Simpsons, which I’ve loved forever.
Hmmm…on second though, I will go with Monty Burns. Excellent.
What is your favorite musician or band, what are you listening to?
I’m listening to Rock Band from the next room, actually—they’re playing ‘Everlong’. My current favorites are Flogging Molly, Devil Makes Three, and NPK, and always Pink Floyd.
What are your Favorite websites, outside of DoInk?
Yes, I’m serious.
What are your hobbies?
Going to college. Working. You know, normal kid things.
What are your favorite Computer Game?
Unreal Tournament, Halo, Impossible Creatures. Battlezone III. I don’t play video games very much any more though.
How did you find DoInk and what is your experience so far?
My roommate last year used it all the time and showed me some of his art. It was pretty good, so of course I had to try— the automatic smoothing cured my animosity toward digital art. The community has been very welcoming, though I get the feeling that I’m actually one of the older people using it. That never happens.
Any advice for other DoInk users?
Draw more reptiles.
