This Week’s Featured Artist - Somethingnew
This week’s featured artist is an amazing animator and artist. I loved her flying pig for Friday Night DoInking last week and if you check out her work, her art and animations are fantastic. She really makes the movement in her animations look so seamless and simple, which we all know it is really hard! We love that she is so active in our contests too. I was just checking out one of her Holiday contest entry from 2009 and that too was excellent. (Also loved the DoInk fanart!!) This week’s featured artist is an inspiration to all of us somethingnew.
Tell us about yourself, what is a typical day like?
Well I’m kinda lazy, and very grounded at the moment for being a rebellious teenager. xD I don’t tend to get up at the right time, so I’m late for school a lot. After school I laze around and eat and doodle… That’s pretty much it at the moment. Eventually I’ll get up and around again when I’m not in trouble anymore lol (:
How old were you when you started drawing? Ever animated anything before?
I’ve always drawn, I really don’t remember when I started. (: My earliest memories are sitting at the kitchen table with a giant crayon and construction paper! DoInk is the first chance I’ve had at animation, and I just adore it. (: I love having the chance to bring my art to life.
Do you have a favorite artist or animator?
Rekala. Her work is SO beautiful, I just can’t imagine ever having skills like hers. :) Though I do enjoy Artistlover’s work almost as much.
What inspires you?
At the moment, this animation of a woman walking…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld25HcOrgCUIt’s so captivating :) I hope I’ll be able to animate like that someday.Usually, though, It’s my quarter horse gelding, Rocket. Totally in love with him. <3
Do you have a favorite cartoon and/or anime character?
AppleJack. I’m a bit of a Brony… Or in my case PegaSister :D
What is your favorite musician or band, what are you listening to?
My aunt, Mel Dalton (: She’s amazing and could sing anything better than the original artist! I love her to death and I’m closer to her than anyone else in my family. Everyone says we are just like each other. (:http://www.meldaltonmmusic.com/
What are your Favorite websites, outside of DoInk?
I like http://www.iscribble.net/, which has drawing chatrooms that are very fun (: and I frequent Facebook a little more than I should xDAlso, I can’t get enough of Memebase! :D
What are your hobbies?
Riding horses, animating, and socializing :P And watching Bones and/or House xD
What are your favorite Computer Games?
I love Spore! Its so fun to try and imitate other animals in the creature creator (:
How did you find DoInk and what is your experience so far?
I was searching Google for animating sites, and I found Doink… I loved it from the start and haven’t really tried any other site after finding it (:
If you could add any features to DoInk, what would they be?
Status updates! :D Like facebook. Only they would probably be more like announcements (: Just so people have a little more to look at when they go to your profile.
Any advice for other DoInk users?
Never give up on a clip that seems like it is taking too long or too much effort… It’ll be so worth it when you finish (:
