This Week’s Featured Artist - Sketchcat

This week’s featured artist has a great style. We really liked her 9/11 tribute recently, but we have liked everything else she has done too! How could you not like someone’s work who has Dr. Horrible as their avatar? I know, it’s just not possible. We also loved her back to school contest entry and her 4th of July/Canada day tribute was excellent as well. Obviously she has too many great clips to even mention. This week’s featured artist is Sketchcat.

Tell us about yourself, what is a typical day like?

I wake up around 6:20 in the morning on weekdays, and I get my cereal and sit in front of the tv to watch The Weather Channel. I get dressed, get my stuff, and go to school. When I get home I usually spend some time on the computer and then do my homework. Lately my days have involved napping, though…

How old were you when you started drawing? Ever animated anything before?

I was drawing before I could remember! My parents still have my first official drawing: a circle with three dots. (Perhaps it was a face?) I actually tried 3-D animating, but I got pretty busy, so I quit that. The day I started real animating was when my teacher showed me the DoInk site. I was so very blissful that day.

Do you have a favorite artist or animator?

I love Bill Watterson’s work with Calvin and Hobbes. I have all 14, actually! (And I’ve read them all more than twice.)

What inspires you?

Music often inspires me, as do movies and pictures. Books and novels also get my imagination running at high speed.

Do you have a favorite cartoon and/or anime character?

My favorite cartoon character is Calvin, form Calvin and Hobbes. He’s the kid I want to be: Imaginative, hilarious, and above all, rule-braking. Calvin puts on a superhero suit, holds a neighboring girl’s doll for hostage, and brings Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons to life. Who wouldn’t want to be that kid?

What is your favorite musician or band, what are you listening to?

I like Rock, Metal, Jazz, Easy Listening, Punk, Techno, Dance, Country, Pop, Hip-Hop, Alternative and even 80’s. The only thing I am not really fond of is Rap, but I still might like it if it’s good. Basically, if you turn on the radio, I’ll like what I hear. Classical is good too!

What are your Favorite websites, outside of DoInk?

canihascheezburger.com is pretty awesome, along with addictinggames.com.

What are your hobbies?

Drawing, drawing, and drawing. I like to sing, and if you catch me alone after school in my house, you’ll most likely find me belting out choir songs. Reading is something I’d like to get back to, but life has been pretty busy.

What are your favorite Computer Games?

Sims 2 is pretty awesome. Sims 3 is OK, but you can’t be in control of multiple families at once. :( Or maybe you can- I might not have found a way yet…

How did you find DoInk and what is your experience so far?

I found DoInk when my Digital Learning teacher showed us in class. I was so very happy that day. I still go on DoInk every day. I love it!

If you could add any features to DoInk, what would they be?

I wish you could make secrets public and public animations secrets.  Also I wish I had a tablet, but that isn’t really a feature…

Any advice for other DoInk users?

I don’t know if I have any good advice, but, if you want to draw a certain cartoon character, pull it up on Google or Bing or whatever, then make the create window half the size of the screen. This way you can look at your character and your drawing together.

What is your favorite clip that you have done?

“My Eyes” Music Video was challenging but fun. The Galaxy was pretty fun too, because all I did was add a whole heck of a lot of stars. I haven’t come across a complete favorite yet, though. Let’s hope it will be in the near future! (Maybe once I get the tablet I’ll finally start making good stuff.)

I guess this is a good one:
