This Week’s Featured Artist - Komeko
This weeks featured artist is so talented. She has such amazing characters and their shading is just beautiful. We love her manga inspired creations. We also love the realistic look of her characters. She is an inspiration to all of us here at DoInk with her beautiful creations and her involvement in the DoInk community. This weeks featured artist is Komeko.
Tell us about yourself, what is a typical day like?
well, it depends on the day really…normally i get up at about 11 in the morning (on a good day, sometimes its later ^^’). then i get right on my computer and draw, sometimes on doink, sometimes on my art program, corel. thats all i do because i have no life ^^ i also like to listen to music and read manga…i dont go outside much ._. oh! im also a busser at a local restaurant (i have an interesting life dont i? :B) then i stay up til like 3 in the morning drawing XD yeahh…i eat a lot too XD
How old were you when you started drawing? Ever animated anything before?
pssh, i dont know. since i could hold a pencil? drawing is a necessity to me, its like eating or breathing. so its only natural that i started out as early as i did…i dunno. ive never had an art lesson before though. ive taken art class, but nobody has taught me anything ^^’ and ive done those little flip books, does that count as animating? o.o
Do you have a favorite artist or animator?
oh my…i love takeshi obata’s artwork…and i also like narae lee (both manga artists) obata’s work stands out to me because, even though its manga, it has a realistic feel to it. the characters dont all look the same and the girls eyes dont take up a third of their heads. and the same goes for lee’s too, its not obnoxiosly adorable like most mangas ^^ i still like other manga artists, but these ones just stand out to me owo
What inspires you?
umm…nothing really ._. i dont quite know how to explain it, but my urges to draw come in….cycles almost? like i get these intense artistic feelings that just kind of build up and i just draw for days and days. then it subsides for a bit…and then it will build up again. its not really inspiration, its more like the compelling need to draw that makes me do what i do… does that make sense even…? >.>’
Do you have a favorite cartoon and/or anime character?
hmm… of all time? well that would be elliot from ‘heart no kuni no alice’ >w< i really like all the characters in that series, but elliot stands out the most XD hes a bunny…person its freaking adorable owo
What is your favorite musician or band, what are you listening to?
oh my… *looks at playlist* well, i like all kinds of music (just not country or jazz, icky)…i like vocaloid, zoro, dir en grey, vistlip, kiryu, alice nine, an cafe, alesana, megadeth, iron maiden, bullet for my valentine, basshunter, all that remains, disturbed, linkin park, the beegees, malice mizer, asian kung fu generation, cradle of filth, epica, lmc, maximum the hormone, paradeis, nightmare, psyclon nine, plastic tree, smile, d’espairsray….i havent even put a dent in it yet =.= in short: i like music ^w^
What are your Favorite websites, outside of DoInk?
im addicted to tinierme (its like gaia only cuter), i have a deviantart… and i use facebook quite often…thats pretty much it XD
What are your hobbies?
hobbies? ._. umm, well, i draw. and read. and i ski… and…write stories? i dont have many hobbies….
What are your favorite Computer Games?
i dont really play computer games… my laptop doesnt run well with them installed. but when i do, i like to play the sims, zoo tycoon, crusader, and fate on the big computer ^^’ simulation and fighting games…yeah XD i actually prefer my (im not joking here) sega genesis to computer games XD 2-D unsavable games are my thing, haha… sonic >w<
How did you find DoInk and what is your experience so far?
well, i was on facebook one day and i happened to look at the ads on the side. i say a cute little octopus…thing…and read ‘do you like to draw?’ so i clicked it and…viola! to be honest with you, this is my 2nd account, but im not telling you who i used to be >:3 my last account is….icky >.> *ahem* anywho, i love it :D i would love to be able to upload music… >.> but im not complaining ^^
If you could add any features to DoInk, what would they be?
i wish i could be able to upload music and i wish there was a way to turn off the automatic line straightener thingy. i also wish you could add folders within your project, it would be easier to keep everything organized that way ^^
Any advice for other DoInk users?
save up for the gradient tool, its awesome owo and draw all the time, seriously. last summer, i was a horrible artist. i drew practically every day for hours on end for about a year, now i think im pretty decent…not the best but passable ^^ just practice practice practice!! :D
it helps if you draw the hardest thing possible over and over again, like hands or something, because then the rest of whatever it is your drawing seems easier XD
